Abstract
Gothic, school, or so-called, is one of the common literary terms in the classical and contemporary eras, which can be considered as the basis of 18th century romanticism. This literary style, which is known in the structure of narratology with the main narratological elements, i.e. time with the semantic component of night and darkness, place with the component of solitude and space with the frightening component, has a purpose other than inducing fear, anxiety and arousing the mood of the audience, beyond rational perceptions and movement. He does not seek mystery and horror. The concept of grotesque, or in other words grotesque, which is a kind of bitter and illusory humor, expressing the states of fear, evil laughter, creepy and ridiculous in a combined form, and generally ugly and unusual events, deviation from norms, inconsistency, distortion and any unpleasant issues. Is. Siamak Golshiri is one of the authors who, in most of his novels, deals with the model of terror in an all-encompassing way while raising social and political issues. The novel "Bat of the Night" is a novel based on a serial killer case with a gruesome atmosphere, which helps the author in his goal of suspending fear in the audience. In this research, we intend to analyze and explain the characteristics of the grotesque and gothic styles in the mentioned novel by relying on the qualitative and descriptive-analytical method, and while expressing the similarities and differences between these two styles, determine which of these two styles has more potential in Golshiri's novel. has it. The results of the present research indicate that the novel "Night Bat" is an obvious example in which the themes of the grotesque and gothic school are manifested in different quantities.
